As part of our year-end activities, the Epiphany Sacred Arts Guild staged an exhibition of sacred art at the Archdiocese Liturgy Conference on Saturday, November 19, 2016, held at Our Lady of Assumption church in Port Coquitlam.
Mary Catherine Breslin prepared a powerpoint presentation which gave insights into the correct placement of liturgical images within sacred space (Catholic Church).
Guild artists Steve Knight, John Suter, Ana Maria Silva, Christine Lim-Labossiere and Patricia Ballard worked hard to present the show. Archbishop Michael Miller,
Father Tran, Father Donnelly, Father Thomas Arackal and many other conference attendees came to view the art.
That same week-end the Guild gave another sacred art exhibit at St. Anthony’s Parish in West Vancouver.
On December 3 and 4, the Guild went to St. Pius X in North Vancouver to give a presentation of sacred art.
This was followed on December 18 with a similar exhibit at Christ The Redeemer in West Vancouver.
On December 10 the Guild held its Day of Reflection at St. Jude’s Church with Fr. Larry Lynn as retreat master. Fr. Larry gave us a presentation on ‘The Christ Figure’ in film and showed various films which illustrated this point.
Although few in number due to heavy snow, we all enjoyed a candlelight Christmas feast in the kitchen and had a wonderful discussion followed by our ‘show and tell’ of new art works. Alina Smolyansky, a new member, showed us twelve Russian icons from her recently published calendar.
On December 12, 2016 several Guild artists were present at the solemn dedication of Saint Clare of Assisi Church in Coquitlam by Archbishop Michael Miller where Patricia Ballard’s restored Stations of the Cross (circa 1950) were seen for the first time.
They were blessed along with all the other sacred art works which pastor Fr. Craig Scott has been collecting for some years. There were 100 invited guests as well as about 900 parishioners and a choir made up of all the various mass choirs.
A wonderful reception followed in the parish centre. The new church is a beautiful design and is well worth visiting.
